Offensive Outburst Helps Jennies Softball to 12-3 Win Over Minnesota State

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (7-2, 0-0 MIAA) defeated the Minnesota State Mavericks (3-3, 0-0 NSIC) by a final score of 12-3 on Friday, Feb. 20, during the opening day of the Washburn Invitational from Silver Lake High School.

The Jens opened the scoring with a two-out RBI double off the wall in right field from Marisa Johnson that scored Krysten Moran, taking a 2-0 lead after a half inning of play.

With one and two away in the second, Cydney Fullerton delivered the third run of the ballgame with an RBI single through the left side, scoring Jadyn Sheffield.

After a lead-off double from Taylor Thompson in the third, Johnson blasted her third dinger of the season, before a bases-loaded RBI walk from Fullerton plated Aly Hageman, making it 6-0 UCM.

The Mavericks answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third and a pair in the fifth, cutting it to a three-run ballgame, but Central Missouri answered with six runs in the sixth, highlighted by a bases-loaded RBI double from Fullerton that scored Hageman, Jenna Little, and Moran.

Bailey Brumley (1-1) earned the victory in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three Maverick batters, as three Jens recorded multi-hit outings in the ballgame, highlighted by Johnson's three hits and Fullerton's game-best five RBI for good measure.

The Jens conclude the Washburn Invitational Saturday, Feb. 21, with a pair of games against Montana State-Billings (2-10, 0-0 NSIC) at noon, followed by a matchup with the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles (2-9, 0-0 NSIC) at 4:00 p.m. from Silver Lake High School.
