Jennies Basketball Turns Back MoWest Wednesday, 80-71

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Reese Schaaf and Taylor Weishaar both tallied double-doubles as the University of Central Missouri Jennies Basketball team posted an 80-71 victory over the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Wednesday, Feb. 21, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.

The Jennies (13-5, 7-2 MIAA) are slated to host Northwest Missouri State (10-9, 3-6 MIAA) in the annual Blackout game on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.

Central Missouri built a 50-34 lead after the opening half before MoWest (6-12, 2-7 MIAA) rallied in the third and fourth quarters, trimming the UCM lead to as little as three points with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, 67-64. That was as close as the Griffons would get, though, as Schaaf and Weishaar went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line, and Rylee Vierthaler added two key layups in the final four minutes, sealing the UCM victory.

Reese Schaaf scored 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 9-of-10 performance at the free-throw line, and snagged 10 rebounds for her team-best eighth double-double of the season, while Weishaar posted her third double-double of 2025-26 with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and an 8-of-9 showing from the free-throw line and 10 rebounds, and Hayden Heim added 12 points, leading the Jennies in the contest.

For the game, UCM went 27-of-55 from the field (49 percent), 9-of-30 from three-point range (30 percent), and were 17-of-19 at the free-throw line for 90 percent.  Central Missouri outrebounded Missouri Western, 37-25, and outscored the paint, 32-30.

Ana Oliveira Dias (19 points) and Mia Morel (17 points) paced MoWest.
