WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The No. 17 University of Central Missouri Mules Wrestling team turned in a strong performance at the annual Roger Denker Open on Sunday, Jan. 18, producing 20 place-winners and six individual champions inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.
Central Missouri totaled more than 40 bout victories on the day, highlighted by championship runs from
Karim Allal (125),
James Wright (141),
Trey Dillow (149), No. 9
Gage Bernall (165), No. 1
Damon Ashworth (184), and
Torin Forsyth (285).
125 Pounds
UCM produced three placers at 125, led by
Karim Allal, who captured the individual title. Allal advanced to the finals after earning a fall over Kaden Spragis (Central Oklahoma) and claimed the championship with a 5-2 sudden-victory decision over his teammate,
Peyton Shepard.
Shepard finished second, while
Kaiden Powell placed third after securing a fall over No. 15-ranked Guy Clevenger (Central Oklahoma) in the third-place bout.
133 Pounds
Gavin Moore placed second at 133 pounds after an impressive run through the bracket. Moore opened the tournament with a fall against Gavin Wehr (Murray State) and followed with an 11-6 decision over Jett Schwarz (Fort Hays State). He advanced to the championship with a semifinal fall against Logan Lopez (Grand View) before finishing runner-up to Ronnie Ramirez (unattached).
141 Pounds
UCM had the top two performers at 141 pounds, with
James Wright winning the championship. Wright reached the finals with a 21-2 technical fall over Carlos Gonzales (Grand View) and defeated teammate
Braeden Moore by a 7-3 decision in the championship match. Moore finished second.Â
149 Pounds
The Mules put together a strong showing at 149 pounds, led by
Trey Dillow, who finished atop the podium. Dillow defeated No. 11-ranked Cole Mayfield (Central Oklahoma) by a 6-1 decision in the finals after earlier wins over Garrett Salt (Drury), Reid Foster (Grand View), and Kasen Miller (Central Oklahoma). No. 14
Garrett Lyons placed third for UCM.
157 Pounds
UCM placed three wrestlers at 157.
Ayden Dolt finished second, reaching the finals before falling in the championship bout to Grand View's Darnai Heard.
Jack Ferguson placed fourth, and
Xerarch Tungjaroenkul earned a fifth-place finish, highlighted by a technical fall earlier in the tournament.
165 Pounds
No. 9
Gage Bernall claimed the 165-pound championship, advancing through the bracket with multiple bonus-point victories. Bernall earned the title after defeating Cason Lindsey (Fort Hays State) in the championship match via a narrow 5-4 decision.
Dax Gentes placed fifth, respectively.Â
174 Pounds
At 174 pounds,
Paul Hernandez finished second after advancing to the championship bout.
Anthony Erickson narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth.Â
184 Pounds

Damon Ashworth captured the 184-pound title, going a perfect 3-0 on the day, and posting a 14-12 decision over teammate
Ayden Flores in the championship match. Flores finished second after dropping the title match to Ashworth.Â
197 Pounds
Jacob Hanes finished fifth at 197 pounds after earning multiple bonus-point wins in the consolation rounds, which included two tech falls and a major decision.Â
285 Pounds
UCM closed the Roger Denker Open with a championship performance at heavyweight, as
Torin Forsyth won the 285-pound title. Forsyth claimed the championship with a major decision over Wade Stanton (Drury) in the finals.
Dawson Rull placed fourth, adding another podium finish for the Mules.
