CLEVELAND, Miss. – The No. 22-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules football team fell to the Delta State Statesmen, 31-23, in a soggy 2025 season opener Thursday evening, Aug. 28, at Parker Field at McCool Stadium in Cleveland, Mississippi.
The Mules (0-1) will face No. 6-ranked Colorado State-Pueblo (1-0) in their 2025 home opener on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg. Â
Central Missouri was outscored in the first half, 25-12, and fell just short of completing a late comeback after outscoring Delta State in the second half, 11-6.
In his first-career game for UCM, redshirt freshman quarterback
Donovyn Omolo went 30-of-45 for 251 yards with one touchdown.
Tank Young rushed for 61 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown in his Central Missouri debut, and
Jack Pospisil (seven catches, 71 yards, 13-yard touchdown reception) and
Hogan Wasson (11 catches, 121 yards) paced the Mules in receiving.
Jaylen Harris had six tackles and a 15-yard quarterback sack, and
Trenton Bell and
Connor McTague both recovered fumbles, leading UCM defensively.
Will Peacock went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts, converting 35 and 29-yard field goals, and
Ethan Brown had six punts for 166 yards.
For the game, Delta State (1-0) outgained UCM, 422-345, including a 140-94 rushing advantage and 282-251 passing advantage. The Mules bested the Statesmen in first downs (22-17) and time of possession (32:27 to 27:33).
Delta State quarterback Cole Kirk was 15-of-23 for 282 yards with two touchdowns, leading the Statesmen.
