Mules Basketball Announces Hiring of Charlie Wilson as Assistant Coach

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – University of Central Missouri Mules Basketball Head Coach Adam Bohac is excited to announce the hiring of Charlie Wilson as the newest Assistant Coach on Wednesday, July 16.

"We are thrilled to welcome Charlie, his wife Kim, and their family to the University of Central Missouri and Mules Basketball," Bohac said. "Charlie's familiarity in this region, along with his past success as a Head Junior College Coach, along with his D1 experience, will make a big impact on our program.  Coach Wilson has been a part of lots of winning and has coached and recruited many very good players.  I know Charlie will make a difference with both current and future Mules, and I am excited to work alongside him!"

Wilson, a native of Stewartsville, Mo., joins UCM after spending two seasons at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C. There, he guided the Royals to an 18-15 record in their inaugural season as a member of the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference in 2022-23. He was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2023-24 season and compiled a 4-1 record as Acting Head Coach during his tenure at QU.

Prior to his time with the Royals, Wilson was the head coach at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he led the Pioneers to an impressive 147-61 record overall in seven seasons, capturing four NJCAA Southern Conference championships and being named the Conference Coach of the Year four times.

During his time with IRSC, Wilson coached 32 players who received NCAA Division I scholarships, including schools in the Big 10, Mountain West, Atlantic 10, and Conference USA. The Pioneers earned two at-large bids for the NJCAA National Tournament, reaching the Elite 8 and Sweet 16 in back-to-back seasons.

Before his time at Indian River, he spent seven seasons at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., from 2008-2015, where he served as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the last five seasons after graduating from CMU in 2005 with his bachelor's degree and earning his master's degree in 2010.

"I am looking forward to being a Mule and a part of the Warrensburg community," Wilson said. "I want to thank Coach Bohac for this opportunity to join his talented staff and group of players to continue the storied tradition of this program."

The Mules begin the 2025-26 season on Friday, Nov. 7, as they take on Colorado School of Mines in the opening game of the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic beginning at noon (11:00 a.m. MT) from Alterowitz Gymnasium in Billings, Mont.
