JOPLIN, Mo. – Top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules Baseball fell to eighth-seeded Missouri Southern, 7-2, in the quarterfinals of the MIAA tournament Thursday, May 8, at Warren Turner Field on the Missouri Southern State University campus.
The Mules (38-11), who entered the week ranked number one in the NCAA-II Central Regional rankings, will now wait to find out their postseason fate on the NCAA-II Baseball Tournament Selection Show Sunday, May 11, at 9:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
The Lions (28-24) took control of the game early, scoring five runs in the first three innings to gain a 5-1 lead, and never trailed the remainder of the contest.
Isaiah Keller went 1-for-4 and hit his 12th homer of the season while
Will Krzykowski added a double, pacing the Mules at the plate.
UCM right-handed starting pitcher
Jake Wilson (4-1) suffered the setback on the mound after giving up five earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and two walks in three innings.
Nate Mieszkowski went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Brayden Luikart was 3-for-5 with two runs and Cy Darnell had two doubles, leading Missouri Southern offensively.
MSSU relief pitcher Owen Schneider (5-3) earned the victory on the rubber, allowing one earned run on one hit with eight strikeouts and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.
