WICHITA, Kan. – For the sixth straight season and 31st time in program history, the University of Central Missouri Mules are MIAA Baseball Regular Season Champions.
UCM swept a doubleheader against the Newman Jets Friday, May 2, at McCarthy Field, winning game one, 11-8, and game two, 17-12, to secure the regular season conference crown.
The Mules (37-10, 28-7 MIAA) and Jets (10-35, 6-29 MIAA) are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, May 3, in Wichita. Saturday's game will also mark the final game of the 2025 regular season for both teams.
In Central Missouri's 11-8 victory in game one, the Mules and Newman were tied, 3-3, going to the sixth inning before UCM outscored the Jets, 8-5, over the final four innings to secure the three-run triumph.
Chase Heath went 3-for-5 with two homers, a double, two runs and five RBI,
Vance Tobol was 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, four runs and a RBI,
Will Krzykowski was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, and
Cole Kreisel was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, leading the Mules at the plate in the opener.
Jacob Steele,
Chase Wilcox and
Grant Hollister also had doubles in the win.
With his two homers, Heath upped his season total to five round-trippers.
UCM relief pitcher
Chris Massey (3-1) earned the victory on the mound in game one, allowing two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and zero walks in 3 1/3 innings while fellow reliever
Sam Wyrick secured his team-best fourth save of 2025 after tossing 1 2/3 innings and giving up four unearned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks.
The Mules outhit the Jets in the first contest, 15-9, and tallied five stolen bases.
In the 17-12 victory in the nightcap, Newman led 10-9 going into the top of the sixth inning before Central Missouri took control of the game, outscoring the Jets over the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings, 8-2, for the comeback win.
Tobol went 2-for-6 with his second home run of the day, increasing his season total to a team-high 18 homers, and drove in two runs while
Jacob Steele posted his 11th home run of 2025 and compiled two RBI and three runs,
Kaleb Ceola Went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, Heath was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, and Hollister and
Dayvin Johnson both tallied doubles, leading the Mules offensively in the nightcap.
Central Missouri reliever
Sawyer Allen (5-0) earned the win on the rubber in the second game, surrendering four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.
Newman outhit UCM in game two, 17-13, but the Mules compiled five stolen bases compared to just two for the Jets.
