No. 3 Mules Baseball Takes Down Washburn Wednesday, 9-2

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Chase Heath tallied two hits and drove in three runs and Sawyer Allen threw four shutout innings in relief, helping No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball to a 9-2 victory over the Washburn Ichabods in a midweek MIAA game Wednesday evening, April 23, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.

With the win, the Mules (33-9, 24-6 MIAA) secure the 2-1, season MIAA series win over the Ichabods (23-24, 15-18 MIAA). UCM is scheduled to host Northeastern State in its final home series of the regular season April 25-27 in Warrensburg.

Washburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, but Central Missouri responded immediately, scoring six runs in the bottom-half of the inning to gain a 6-2 advantage.

Grant Hollister hit an RBI double to centerfield for the opening run of the inning prior to Cole Kreisel smacking an RBI single to centerfield for the tying run. Jacob Steele singled through the left side, scoring Hollister for the go-ahead run, before Heath smashed a bases-clearing triple down the right field line for the final three runs of the inning.

Central Missouri added two runs in the seventh when Chase Wilcox scored Dayvin Johnson on a sacrifice fly and Austin Buie belted an RBI double to left center, increasing its lead to 8-2, before adding its ninth and final run of the game in the eighth inning on an RBI infield single from Johnson.

Heath went 2-for-4 with a triple, double, run and three runs batted in while Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Kreisel was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, leading UCM at the plate.

Allen earned the win on the mound, improving to 4-0 on the season after entering the game in the fourth inning and giving up no earned run on zero hits with two strikeouts and one walk in four innings out of the bullpen.

Jett Buck went 3-for-4 to lead Washburn offensively.

Ichabod starting pitcher Griffin Huiatt (3-5) suffered the setback on the rubber, surrendering six earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks in two innings of work.
