No. 3 Mules Baseball Turns Back Washburn Wednesday, 5-1

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Pitchers Cody Bruss and Sam Wyrick teamed up to throw nine innings of one-run baseball leading No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball to a 5-1 victory over the Washburn Ichabods in a midweek MIAA game Wednesday, March 26, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.

The Mules (20-6, 11-3 MIAA) are scheduled to host No. 24-ranked Fort Hays State (20-6, 15-2 MIAA) in a three-game MIAA series March 28-30 in Warrensburg.

With the victory, 11th season head coach Kyle Crookes picked up his 418th career victory, tying former Central Missouri head coach Brad Hill for most wins in program history.

Bruss tossed a season-best six innings, allowing one unearned run on just three hits with four strikeouts and three walks on 90 pitches to earn the win and move to 1-0 on the mound this season while Wyrick secured his first save of 2025 after tossing three hitless and scoreless innings on 36 pitches.

Chase Wilcox went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI, and Isaiah Keller, Cole Kreisel and Kaleb Ceola each drove in a run, pacing the Mules at the plate.

Jackson Mervosh was 1-for-4 with an RBI, leading Washburn (14-15, 7-10 MIAA) offensively.

Ichabod starting pitcher Griffin Huiatt (3-3) suffered the setback on the rubber, surrendering four runs – three earned – on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
