BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Central Missouri Jennies (2-2, 0-0 MIAA) split a pair of games in the final day of the Avly Early Memorial Classic defeating the William Jewell Cardinals by a final score of 9-3 before falling to the Harding Bisons 9-1 (5 inn.) on Saturday, Feb. 8, from Memorial Park in Bentonville, Ark.
The Jens return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 14, as they take on the McKendree Bearcats at 3:30 p.m. before taking on the Maryville Saints at 5:30 p.m. in the opening day of the Branson Battle Classic from the Branson RecPlex in Branson, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 9, William Jewell 3
The Jens got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first thanks to RBI singles from sophomore
Taylor Thompson (scoring
Jadyn Sheffield) before a
Bailey Brumley single drove in
Aly Hageman.
Central Missouri added a run in the third before the Cardinals answered with one of their own in the top of the fifth. In the ensuing half inning, the Jens responded plating three of their own highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Brumley (scoring Thompson and
Marisa Johnson) making it a 6-1 advantage.
Central Missouri cashed in with three runs during a two-out rally in the sixth en route to their second win of the season.
Emily Brouse (1-0) picked up the win in the circle allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight Cardinal batters.
Thompson, Johnson, and Brumley (game-high five RBI) all collected three hits each while Hageman and Thompson scored three times each for good measure.
Game 2: Harding 9, Central Missouri 1 (5 inn.)
In the Alvy Early Memorial Classic finale, the Jens opened the scoring in the top of the first using aggressive baserunning as
Lexi Blackmon scored thanks to a stolen base from Hageman. The Bisons responded with a trio of runs in the first, second and fourth and never relinquished.
Blackmon, Hageman,
Andi Siebeneck, and
Breanna Newton all recorded hits for the Jens while sophomore
Brooke Weimer (0-2) suffered the loss in the circle.
