No. 3 Mules Baseball Wins MIAA Opener at Missouri Western Sunday, 7-1

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Third-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball opened its 2025 MIAA slate with a 7-1 victory over the Missouri Western Griffons Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, at the Spring Sports Complex.

The Mules (6-2, 1-0 MIAA) and Griffons (1-7, 0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series in St. Joseph with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Monday, Feb. 24.

Central Missouri plated a run in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk to Chase Wilcox before scoring two runs each in the third, fourth and sixth innings to complete the 7-1 triumph.

Isaiah Keller opened the scoring in the top of the third with an RBI single to center field before Wilcox plated Dayvin Johnson on ground out for the second run of the frame.

A pair of Griffon errors plated both UCM runs in the top of the fourth before a Missouri Western balk and sacrifice fly from Jacob Steele brought home the Mules' final two runs of the game in the sixth.

Steele went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Chase Heath was 2-for-5 with two runs scored to pace UCM at the plate in the win.

Central Missouri right-hander Evan O'Toole (2-0) earned the victory on the mound after allowing one earned run on just two hits with eight strikeouts and only two walks in five innings.

Missouri Western starting pitcher Lynden Breugman (0-3) suffered the setback on the rubber, giving up three runs – one earned – on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks in three innings of work.
