WARRENSBURG, Mo. – University of Central Missouri Jennies Basketball shutout William Jewell in the fourth quarter, 19-0, helping it roll to an 83-43 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 20, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.
The Jennies (8-4, 2-1 MIAA) are scheduled to host the Emporia State Lady Hornets (7-3, 1-1 MIAA) on New Year's Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Warrensburg.
After leading by two points, 21-19, at the end of the first quarter, UCM put up 27 points in the second quarter while limiting William Jewell to just 12 points, gaining a 48-31 lead at halftime.
Central Missouri went on to outscore the Cardinals in the third and fourth quarters, 35-12, to secure the 40-point win.
Neely Schaaf (14 points),
Makenzie Farmer (13 points), and
Jolie Bonderer (10 points) all scored career highs, while
Reese Schaaf (10 points) and
Jayla Griffith (10 points) also reached double-digit scoring in the game.
The Jennies shot 48 percent from the field (28-of-58), 42 percent from three-point range (11-of-26), and were 73 percent at the free-throw line (16-of-22) in the victory. UCM outrebounded William Jewell, 39-25, and outscored the Cardinals in the paint, 32-8, and off turnovers, 24-11.
Alex McGarrah had 17 points, pacing William Jewell (0-9), respectively.
