Jennies Volleyball Defeats Drury in Four

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The (Receiving Votes) Central Missouri Jennies (17-6, 8-4 MIAA) defeated the Drury Panthers (14-11, 4-5 GLVC) by a final score of 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 25-27, 25-23) Tuesday, Nov. 4, inside the O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield.     
 
After securing a 25-18 victory in the opening set of the match on a 4-1 run with a pair of kills from junior Maya Fergerson (nine kills and two digs overall) and middle blocker Rachel Ziesman (seven kills, five digs, and five blocks overall), Central Missouri doubled its advantage in the second, winning 25-23, highlighted by an 8-2 run led by four kills from Sedalia, Mo. native Emma Siron (15 kills and 13 digs overall).
 
The Panthers responded with a 27-25 win in the third and led by eight in the fourth before UCM rallied back, tying the set at 23 on a 9-3 run before taking the lead for good with a Drury attack error en route to their 17th win of the season.
 
Defensively, four Jens collected double-figure digs, including a team-best 25 from redshirt senior Grace Winkelmann. The Rhineland, Mo. native added a career-high six assists and two service aces in the winning effort, while defensive specialist Ragin Corwin added 11 digs for good measure.
 
Senior Kayla Baer recorded her eighth double-double performance of the season with a match-best 51 assists, 18 digs, and three kills, while Parkville, Mo. native Shaye Koski led Central Missouri offensively with a match-high 18 kills on 44 swings (.364 hitting percentage), adding six digs, and a career-best five blocks on the night.
 
For the match, the Jens outhit Drury by a margin of .212 to .191 as middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald had 10 kills on 25 swings (.360 attack percentage), four blocks, and two digs while sophomore Brenna Kelly collected nine digs in the winning effort.
 
Central Missouri continues MIAA play Friday, Nov. 7, hosting No. 20 Missouri Western Griffons (18-5, 10-2 MIAA), for Teachers in the Bleachers Night, beginning at 6:00 p.m., from Dr. Peggy Martin Court, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
