FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — The No. 6 Jennies bowling Team wrapped up three days of competition at the Bearcat Classic with a competitive but tough Sunday in Bracket Play, going 0-3 despite taking every match to the final game.
UCM opened the morning against Np. 3 seed (No.10) Maryville, battling through several games before falling 3-4. The Jennies then faced No. 5 seed (No. 15) McKendree, coming up just short in a tight 3.5-4.5 matchup. In the final match of the day UCM went frame-for-frame with No. 7 seed (No. 20) Wright State, ultimately dropping another close decision, 3-4.
The Jennies closed the weekend 6-6 overall earning a sixth-place finish in a strong 12-team field.
Head coach
Ron Holmes said the weekend showcased both the team's potential and areas for continued growth:
"The results of Sunday's bracket show several things we already knew; we are a talented but young and inexperienced team. We have to learn how to continue working through entire matches to beat other experienced and talented teams. The three tough Sunday matches show flashes of some really exciting things to come if the ladies continue to play hard and limit unforced errors until the last ball of a match is done. The final results of 6-6 for the weekend and a sixth-place finish sting a little after Saturday's play, but we have another opportunity next week to keep learning and getting better."
Up Next, the Jennies return to action Nov. 21-23 at the D-II Thanksgiving Invite.
