Jennies Volleyball Tames Lions in Four Friday

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The (Receiving Votes) Central Missouri Jennies (10-3, 2-1 MIAA) defeated the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions (9-5, 1-2 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21) Friday, Oct. 3, inside Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Ark.    
 
After dropping the opening set of the match and trailing 20-18 in the second, the Jens started a 7-1 run with kills from middle blockers Rachel Ziesman (12 kills on 29 swings for a .310 hitting percentage overall) and Kaelyn McDonald (13 kills on 26 swings for a .385 attack percentage, four digs, and three blocks overall) evening the score at one.
 
Central Missouri opened the third on a 4-1 run, capped off by a redshirt senior Grace Winkelmann ace. Winkelmann, a native of Rhineland, Mo., collected a match-high 29 digs, bringing her total to 1,622, which now ranks seventh in program history, surpassing Sarah Dallas (1995-98).
 
With the score knotted at 11 in the fourth set, the Jens took the lead for good with a kill from Ziesman, followed by back-to-back aces from Winkelmann en route to their 10th win of the season and second in MIAA play.
 
Four Jens ended the night with double-digit kills, including a team-high 14 from Sedalia, Mo. native Emma Siron. The redshirt sophomore added 11 digs and two blocks, while outside hitter Shaye Koski had 10 kills and eight digs in the winning effort.
 
Setter Kayla Baer posted her third 50-plus assist outing of the season with a match and season-high 53, adding nine digs and five kills on 11 swings (.455 hitting percentage) for good measure.
 
Blue Springs, Mo. native Maya Fergerson contributed nine kills and two digs, while freshman Ragin Corwin collected seven digs on the evening.
 
Central Missouri continues MIAA play Saturday afternoon, as they take on No. 1 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (17-0, 3-0 MIAA) inside Hamilton Field House. First serve begins at 1:00 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.
