WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The (Receiving Votes) Central Missouri Jennies (9-3, 1-1 MIAA) reverse-swept the Rockhurst Hawks (8-5, 1-0 GLVC) by a final score of 3-2 (24-26, 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 16-14) Tuesday, Sept. 30, during Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City Night, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
After dropping the opening two sets of the match and trailing 9-11 in the third, the Jens began an 11-2 run with a trio of errors by the Hawks before a redshirt sophomore
Emma Siron kill gave the Jens a 25-19 set victory in the third.
Siron, a redshirt sophomore, had eight kills on 14 swings in the set, good enough for a .571 attack percentage. The Sedalia, Mo. native ended the match with a team-best 17 kills, adding 11 digs and two blocks for good measure.
Central Missouri continued their winning ways in the fourth as the Jens outhit Rockhurst by a margin of .415 to .278 as outside hitter
Shaye Koski had five kills on 10 swings (.400 hitting percentage) in the frame. Koski ended the match with 16 kills and seven digs in the winning effort.
With a tie score at 14 in the fifth, middle blocker
Kaelyn McDonald's (match-high seven blocks and four digs) career-high 15
th kill of the match gave the Jens the lead for good, before a kill from Koski earned the Jens their first five-set win of the season and ninth victory overall.
Four UCM hitters finished the match with double-digit kills on the night, including senior
Rachel Ziesman, who ended the match with 13 kills on 33 swings (.333 attack percentage), adding four blocks for good measure.
Libero
Grace Winkelmann paced Central Missouri defensively in the back row with a team-high 18 digs while Owasso, Okla. native
Kirsten Harper collected a career-best 15 digs and freshman
Ragin Corwin added seven digs.
Senior
Kayla Baer had a match-high 53 assists, nine digs, and two blocks on the night, while Blue Springs, Mo. native
Maya Fergerson added six kills and three blocks in the winning effort.
Central Missouri continues MIAA play Friday, Oct. 3, as they head to the Stubblefield Center for a matchup with the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions (9-4, 1-1 MIAA) beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Fort Smith, Ark.
