WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Thanks to a trio of runs in the fourth and a pair in the fifth, the second-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball team wins game one of the best of three series with the Fort Hays State Tigers (25-25, 12-21 MIAA) by a final score of 5-3 on Friday, May 3, from Crane Stadium/Thompkins Field in Warrensburg.
The Mules (44-6, 29-4 MIAA) trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but cut the lead to a run with a 2-RBI triple from first baseman
Josh Patrick (scoring Coole Moore and Brennan van Breusegen) before tying the game with a
Jacob Steele sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Central Missouri took the lead for good taking advantage of a Tiger error off the bat of
Vance Tobol (scoring
Jack Schark) before adding an insurance run thanks to right fielder
Carter Young stealing home.
UCM's bullpen combined to allow just one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts combined as redshirt senior
Jake Wilson (5-0) earned the victory allowing one hit and struck out three in three innings of work while
Nathan Hall (one hit) and
JD McReynolds each tossed one inning striking out three for good measure.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, beginning at 2:00 p.m. from Crane Stadium/Thompkins Field in Warrensburg.
