EDMOND, Okla. – No. 8 Central Missouri Jennies (23-27, 12-14 MIAA) fell to No. 9 Missouri Southern Lions (33-21, 12-14 MIAA) by a final score of 3-2, in the opening game of the 2024 MIAA Softball Championships Wednesday, May 1, from Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla.
The Lions opened the scoring with a run in the top of the third, but the Jens answered in the fourth with a pinch-hit RBI single from
MaKenzie Cooper (scoring
Abby Allnutt) before taking the lead with a pinch-hit RBI groundout from
Emma McCall (scoring
Carly Youngblood) giving UCM a 2-1 lead.
Missouri Southern responded with a pair of runs in the ensuing half-inning and never relinquished as
Paige Petefish (7-8) suffered the loss allowing one hit and striking out two in 4 and 2/3 innings of work while Allnutt, Cooper,
Jadyn Sheffield, and
Lexi Blackmon paced UCM offensively each collecting a hit in the ballgame.
