LIBERTY, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (6-7, 0-0) dropped a pair of games against the William Jewell Cardinals (12-8, 0-0) by final scores of 2-0 and 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon from Cardinal Field in Liberty, Mo.
The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, Mar. 9, as they begin MIAA play with a doubleheader on the road against No. 16 Pittsburg State Gorillas (20-2, 0-0) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from the PSU Softball Complex in Pittsburg, Kan.
Game 1: William Jewell 2, Central Missouri 0
The Cardinals opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the sixth as
Paige Petefish (1-2) allowed five hits, two runs (both unearned) while striking out five Cardinal batters.
Central Missouri was paced offensively by right fielder
Lexi Blackmon, sophomore
Jadyn Sheffield, and catcher
Laney Killpack who each collected a hit in the contest.
Game 2: William Jewell 4, Central Missouri 3
William Jewell jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second. The Jens responded with a pair of runs in the fifth as Blackmon scored from third on a wild pitch followed by an RBI groundout from Sheffield that scored third baseman
Halle Howes.
In the top of the sixth with runners on second and third and one out, Blackmon delivered with an RBI single up the middle scoring
Morgan Shields making it 4-3 William Jewell. The Jens threatened in the top of the seventh with bases loaded and two outs but were unable to capitalize.
