Jennies Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at UMSL Tuesday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (15-16, 4-6 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Missouri – St. Louis Tritons (16-16, 3-3 GLVC) by final scores of 6-3 and 2-1 on Tuesday, March 26, from UMSL Softball Field in St. Louis.

The Jens return to the diamond on Friday, March 29, as they continue MIAA play on the road with a doubleheader against No. 3 Rogers State Hillcats (26-4, 10-0 MIAA) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the Diamond Sports Complex in Claremore, Okla.

Game 1: Central Missouri 6, Missouri – St. Louis 3
The Jens got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second thanks to a Brooke Weimer RBI single to center field that scored Taylor Thompson and Abby Allnutt. Missouri – St. Louis answered with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning, but in the fourth UCM responded with an RBI single from catcher Laney Killpack followed by a Lexi Blackmon RBI double making it a 4-3 Jens lead.

In the fifth, Central Missouri added two more insurance runs as Allnutt delivered with an RBI single scoring Hayden Serna and MaKenzie Cooper as Weimer (6-7) picked up her sixth win of the season in the circle tossing 5 2/3 innings striking out four while Andi Siebeneck gets her second save of the year going 1 1/3 innings in relief striking out three for good measure.

Game 2: Central Missouri 2, Missouri – St. Louis 1
Central Missouri jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second with a lead-off home run to center field from Thompson (her team-leading seventh of the year) before the Tritons tied the game with an RBI double in the sixth.

After reaching on base by an error from the UMSL third baseman, Blackmon scored two batters later thanks to an RBI double from Serna which proved to be the difference as Siebeneck (2-1) earned her second win of the year allowing just one hit in 1 2/3 innings in relief of Lake St. Louis native Amanda Hansen who allowed one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
