WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Top-seeded Central Missouri Jennies soccer saw its 2024 season come to a close Sunday, Dec. 1, falling to the second-seeded Minnesota State Mavericks, 1-0 in double overtime, in the NCAA-II Central Regional Championship match at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies end their season with an overall record of 17-5-2. UCM captured the MIAA Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA-II tournament for the 14th consecutive and 17th overall time in program history.
The Mavericks (17-1-6) advance to the NCAA-II Women's Soccer Championship National Quarterfinals with the win.
Both UCM and Minnesota State played to a scoreless draw in 90 minutes, sending the match into overtime.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the opening extra time period, forcing a second, golden-goal overtime frame.
The Mavericks' Avery Korsching netted what proved to be the decisive goal in the 106th-minute on a shot from distance.
For the match, Minnesota State outshot UCM, 20-16, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Jennies bested the Mavericks in corner kicks, however, 4-3.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (17-5-2) suffered the setback between the posts, allowing one goal while making a career-high nine saves in 106 minutes.
MSU goalkeeper Claire Longueville (16-0-5) picked up the win after allowing no goals while making five saves in 106 minutes.
