Drew Kaufman had a pair of interceptions leading the Central Missouri Mules football team to a 45-36 win over the No. 19/20-ranked Emporia State Hornets Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, at Jones Field at Welch Stadium.
The Mules (7-3, 5-3 MIAA), who have won their last four contests, are scheduled to wrap up the 2024 regular season with a home game against Missouri Southern (1-8, 0-7 MIAA) Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg. UCM will honor its 2024 senior class prior to kickoff.
Zebrowski went 34-for-46 for his 358 passing yards and added 92 rushing yards on 15 carries for 450 yards of total offense on the day while
LaAngelo Bell rushed for a pair of touchdowns on 23 carries and tallied 74 rushing yards,
Zach Phipps tallied a pair of touchdown receptions on three catches,
Derrick Rose added a touchdown reception and 31 receiving yards on four catches, and
Hogan Wasson (seven catches, 88 yards) and
Jack Pospisil (seven catches, 82 yards) both surpassed 80 receiving yards, leading UCM offensively.
Kaufman scored his first-career touchdown after intercepting an Emporia States pass on the opening drive of the third quarter and returning it 35 yards to the end zone, and added an interception in the first quarter, while
Cale Miller compiled eight tackles, pacing the Central Missouri defense.
For the game, the Hornets (7-3, 5-3 MIAA), outgained the Mules, 547 yards to 519 yards, including a 427-358 advantage in passing yards, but UCM bested ESU on the ground, rushing for 161 yards compared to 120 yards for Emporia State. The Mules also posted a 33-24 advantage in first downs and tallied a 37:59 to 22:01 time of possession advantage. Central Missouri was also an impressive 6-for-7 in red-zone scoring chances in the victory.
Gunnar Gundy went 30-for-51 with two interceptions and compiled four touchdown passes and 341 passing yards and Tyler Kahmann posted 228 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 12 catches, pacing Emporia State.
