MARYVILLE, Mo. – No. 5-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer and the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats battled to a 4-4 draw Friday afternoon, Oct. 11, at Bearcat Pitch.
The Jennies (7-2-2, 4-0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to St. Joseph, Mo., Sunday, Oct. 13, for a 1 p.m. MIAA match at Missouri Western (9-0-1, 4-0 MIAA).
Ashleigh Martin put Central Missouri ahead early, 1-0, after scoring her team-best seventh goal of the season off a corner kick from
Caroline Cole two minutes into the match.
Northwest Missouri (4-2-5, 2-1-2 MIAA) equalized almost immediately, tying the contest, 1-1, with a goal in the fourth minute.
UCM went back in front, 2-1, after the Bearcats misplayed a ball for an own goal in the 10th-minute.
Freshman
Mackenzie Smith made it 3-1, Central Missouri, when she scored her first collegiate goal of a corner kick from Cole and an assist from Martin in the 13th-minute.
Northwest Missouri didn't go away, though, and pulled within 3-2 with a goal in the 19th-minute, before converting a penalty-kick in the 32nd-minute, leveling the match, 3-3.
Central Missouri responded quickly out halftime as
Lexie Ruf blasted home her third goal of the season in the 50th-minute, putting the Jennies back in front, 4-3.
Again, the Bearcats had an answer, tying the match, 4-4, with a goal in the 76th-minute. That goal proved to be the final score of the contest.
For the match, Central Missouri outshot Northwest Missouri State, 18-13, including a 13-11 edge in shots on goal. The Jennies also bested the Bearcats in corner kicks, 10-3.
UCM goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (7-2-2) earned the draw in goal after giving up four goals while making seven saves in 90 minutes.
Ximena Arnau, Makenna West, Adell Gore and Darrian Gordon each netted goals for Northwest Missouri, pacing NWMSU offensively.
Bearcat goalkeeper Lilly Ellis (4-2-5) picked up the tie between the posts, allowing four goals while making 10 saves in 90 minutes.
