WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri Mules Wrestling dropped a close match against the Maryville Saints Sunday, Jan. 21 at their home opener in the Multipurpose Building. The Mules were outscored 22-15 by the Saints, winning 4 of their 9 matches. 

At 125-pounds, red-shirt freshman Jacob Tangpricha won an 11-4 decision over Maryville's Sam Shafer, putting the Mules up 3. However, the Mules had an opening at 133-pounds, putting the Saints up 6-3.

The Saints took the 141-pound match to go ahead 10-3 but Garrett Lyons, a 149-pound freshman, fought back to put the Mules within four points after defeating Maryville's Collin Reif in a 10-3 decision. 

Following suit, red-shirt freshman Anthony Erickson gave the Mules three more with a shutout 5-0 decision over Maryville's Carter Smith. The Saints went on to win the next two matches, keeping the lead 16-9.

With the only pin of the day, 184-pound red-shirt sophomore Damon Ashworth defeated Maryville's John Gholson a minute and 19 seconds into the second period to put the Mules within one (16-15).

The Mules fought hard, but dropped two decisions in the final matches to end the dual with 15 points, coming shy of Maryville's 22. 

The Mules are back at home Saturday, Jan. 27 hosting Nebraska Kearney in their first conference dual.
