Jennies Volleyball Defeats No. 20 Central Oklahoma 3-2 in Edmond

EDMOND, Okla. – The Central Missouri Jennies (8-5, 5-0) defeated No. 20 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (13-3, 4-2) by a final score of 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-25, 22-20) on Friday, Sept. 29, inside Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla.
 
After dropping the opening set, Central Missouri answered by tying the match on a 6-1 run highlighted by a pair of Sydney Lierz (10 digs, three blocks, and two assists overall) service aces including one that was aided by a successful coaches' challenge from head coach Caitlin Peterson. The Jens continued their winning ways in set number three outhitting UCO by a margin of .354 to .220, taking a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Bronchos responded by forcing a fifth set in the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth. With a 9-7 advantage in the deciding set, Central Missouri's Kersti Nix (15 kills and three digs overall) delivered with a kill from Olivia Olson (team-high 52 assists, 10 digs, nine kills, and five blocks overall) making it a three-point advantage.
 
Later in the set with the scored tied at 20, middle blocker Grace Southern (11 kills and six blocks overall) gave UCM the lead for good with a kill followed by the game-sealing point with a block alongside freshman Emma Siron (12 kills overall) as the Jens maintain a perfect record in conference play.
 
Freshman Elinor Engel led Central Missouri offensively with 16 kills on 26 swings (.538 hitting percentage) adding four blocks and two digs, while libero Grace Winkelmann collected a team-high 20 digs and two assists. Freshman Emma Wheeler added a career-high eight digs and a career-high two service aces, plus, defensive specialist Jackie Storm contributed seven digs in the winning effort.
 
The Jens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 30, as they continue MIAA play on the road against the Pittsburg State Gorillas (6-8, 2-4) beginning at 2:00 p.m. from John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan.
