WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (6-5, 3-0) defeated the Emporia State Hornets (7-3, 1-1) by a final score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15) on Friday, Sept. 22, inside the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
After dropping the opening set of the match, the Jens answered by taking the next three sets by a combined score of 75-49 earning their third conference victory of the season. On the night, Central Missouri outhit the Hornets .253 to .158, while out-blocking them 21-11.
The Jennies were led offensively by freshman
Gillian Bachali with 16 kills and four digs, while outside hitter
Kersti Nix recorded 13 kills and four blocks respectively. Freshman
Emma Siron added eight kills on 11 attempts (.727 hitting percentage), plus middle blocker
Grace Southern had a match-high seven blocks and six kills in the victory.
Reigning MIAA setter of the week
Olivia Olson contributed a match-high 47 assists, a career-high seven aces, five blocks, five digs and four kills, while freshman
Elinor Engel (four blocks) and
Maya Fergerson added four kills each. Defensively, libero
Grace Winkelmann led the Jens with a match-high 22 digs, plus, redshirt senior
Jackie Storm (four assists) had 14 digs and outside hitter
Sydney Lierz collected seven digs.
Central Missouri returns to the court on Saturday, Sept. 23, as they host No. 13 Washburn Ichabods with first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from inside the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo for the second annual Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City match.
