ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 12-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer posted a 1-0 shutout win over the Missouri Western Griffons Friday, Sept. 22, at Spratt Memorial Stadium.
The Jennies (5-2-0) are scheduled to open MIAA conference play Sunday, Sept. 24, at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo., at 1 p.m.
After both teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, the Jennies broke through eight minutes into the second half in the 53rd-minute when
Lexie Ruf netted her first goal of the season.
For the match, Central Missouri outshot Missouri Western (2-3-2), 12-6, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. UCM also bested the Griffons in corner kicks, 7-2.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (4-1-0) picked up the win and shutout between the posts after going the full 90 minutes and allowing no goals while making three saves.
Elsabeth Pujado had two shots and two shots on goal, leading Missouri Western offensively.
Griffon goalkeeper Keeley Kroonenberg (2-3-2) suffered the loss in goal after surrendering one goal and making six saves in 90 minutes.
