No. 16 Jennies Shut Out Missouri Southern in Joplin Friday, 2-0

JOPLIN, Mo. – Mikayla Ernst scored a goal in the first half and Andree Orcutt netted a goal in the second half as the No. 16-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer team posted a 2-0, shutout win over the Missouri Southern Lions Friday night, Sept. 15, at Hal Bodon Field. 

The Jennies (3-2-0) are scheduled to host Northwest Missouri (2-1-2) for their 2023 home opener Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

Ernst, a freshman from Raymore, Mo., got UCM on the scoreboard in the 23rd-minute, 1-0, placing a low, line-drive free-kick into the right corner of the net for her team-high fourth goal of the season.

Orcutt, a redshirt junior out of Overland Park, Kan., doubled the Central Missouri advantage in the 62nd-minute to 2-0, curling a corner kick from the left side of the pitch into the upper right corner of the goal for her first goal of 2023.

For the match, the Jennies outshot the Lions (0-4-1), 14-2, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. UCM also bested Missouri Southern in corner kicks, 6-0.

Central Missouri goalkeeper Kristen Wright (2-1-0) earned the victory and shutout between the posts, going the full 90 minutes and making one save while surrendering zero goals.

Angel Chase (0-1-1) took the loss in goal for Missouri Southern, giving up two goals while making a match-high six saves in 90 minutes.
