ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (4-4, 1-0) swept the Missouri Western Griffons (6-3, 0-1) by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-10) on Thursday, Sept. 14, in the opening match of MIAA play from MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo.
Midway through the opening set with an 11-6 lead, Central Missouri went on an 8-2 run taking a 1-0 advantage. With the score tied at 15 in the second, the Jens regained the lead for good with an
Olivia Olson (match-high 27 assists, 10 digs, three kills, a match-high two service aces and two blocks overall) kill jumping ahead 2-0. UCM began the third set on a 14-2 run before claiming the set by a final score of 25-10 to win the match.
Reigning MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week
Kersti Nix led the Jens with a match-high 16 kills on 42 swings (.310 hitting percentage) adding six digs and two blocks, while middle blocker
Grace Southern added eight kills on 16 attempts (.500 attack percentage) and four digs.
Defensively, Central Missouri held the Griffons to an .008 hitting percentage on the night as three Jennies recorded double-digit digs including Olson, redshirt senior
Sydney Lierz (match-high 15 digs and two assists) and libero
Grace Winkelmann (13 digs). Freshman
Elinor Engel contributed four kills and a match-high three blocks (including two solo blocks) while libero
Jackie Storm had seven digs respectively.
UCM returns to the court on Saturday, Sept. 16, as they continue MIAA play on the road against No. 18 Northwest Missouri with first serve scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo.
