HAYS, Kan. – Brooke Littrell scored 19 points and
Olivia Nelson added 18 points leading the No. 10-ranked Central Missouri Jennies basketball team to a 71-64 victory over the Fort Hays State Tigers Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. It marked the first victory in Hays, Kan., for UCM women's basketball since 2010.
The Jennies (19-3, 15-3 MIAA) are scheduled to return home to the Multipurpose Building to host the Emporia State Lady Hornets Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
Littrell, a redshirt sophomore from Green City, Mo., compiled her game-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor and a 7-of-9 showing at the free-throw line while snagging a game-best 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Nelson, a redshirt sophomore from Kansas City, Mo., went 5-of-11 from the floor, including a 2-for-4 performance from three-point range, and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line for her 18 points. Nelson also dished out a team-high six assists and pulled down five rebounds.
Lauren Frost (11 points) and
Ashley Tull (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Jennies.
For the game, UCM went 26-of-57 from the field for 46 percent and 15-of-20 at the free-throw line for 75 percent. Central Missouri dominated the glass, outrebounding Fort Hays State (19-8, 14-5 MIAA), 35-26, and outscored the Tigers in the paint, 36-28.
Katie Wagner scored 16 points, pacing Fort Hays State.
