No. 16 Jennies Volleyball Falls to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul 3-1 in Central Region Semifinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four seed Central Missouri Jennies (25-8, 18-2) fell the top seed Concordia-St. Paul State Golden Bears (30-2, 16-2) by a final score of 3-1 (28-30, 20-25, 25-20, 15-25) on Friday, Dec. 1, in the semifinal match of the NCAA D-II Central Region Volleyball Tournament inside Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.    
 
The Golden Bears began the match on a 6-2 run and led by as many as 12, but the Jens took the lead at 25-24 thanks to a 17-4 run highlighted by three kills from middle blocker Rachel Ziesman (team-high 13 kills on 26 swings for a .423 hitting percentage adding a match-high eight blocks overall) and redshirt senior Kersti Nix (11 kills, two digs, and two blocks overall). CSP answered with a 4-1 run taking the opening set before doubling their lead with a 25-20 win in the second.
 
With the score tied at three in the third, Central Missouri jumped out to a four-point lead on a 7-2 run highlighted by two kills from redshirt senior Sydney Lierz (10 digs, nine kills, and two blocks overall) as the Jens took the set 25-20. Concordia-St. Paul answered in the fourth with a 25-15 win ending the match on a 10-2 run.
   
Setter Olivia Olson recorded her 19th double-double performance of the year with a team-high 31 assists, 12 digs, six kills, and a match-high three service aces while freshman Elinor Engel had four kills and right-side hitter Emma Siron added three blocks and three digs respectively.
 
Libero Grace Winkelmann paced UCM defensively with a team-high 19 digs and a career-high six service aces, plus redshirt senior Jackie Storm collected seven digs and junior Arley Anderson had four digs on the night. The Jens ended their season with a 25-8 overall record, capturing the program's 26th MIAA regular season championship and fourth conference tournament title under 2023 MIAA Coach of the Year Caitlin Peterson
