Scene Setter
  • Central Missouri volleyball (9-5, 6-0) begins a three-match home stand on Tuesday, Oct. 3, against Missouri Southern (10-5, 3-3) before hosting the Newman Jets (0-13, 0-6) on Thursday, Oct. 5, with both matches beginning at 6:00 p.m. from the Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo.
  • Last week, the Jens won a pair of road matches over No. 20 Central Oklahoma 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-25, 22-20) on Friday, Sept. 29, before defeating Pittsburg State 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22) on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Jens improved to 6-0 in MIAA play, which is the best start since 2013.  
  • Freshman Elinor Engel was named the MIAA Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week for her play on the court. The middle blocker from Shawnee, Kan. collected 30 kills on 54 swings (.444 attack percentage) including a career-high 16 against No. 20 Central Oklahoma on Friday night before having 14 kills on Saturday afternoon against the Gorillas.

  • Both matches will be available on a pay-per-view basis through the MIAA Network with coverage beginning at 6:00 p.m. both Tuesday and Thursday evenings.    

Last Time Out
  • UCM defeated the Pittsburg State Gorillas by a final score of 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22) on Saturday, Sept. 30, inside John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan.
  • Setter Olivia Olson garnered her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with a match-high 53 assists, 13 digs, six blocks and four kills for good measure. The redshirt senior from Malone, Wisc., achieved her 1,000th career assists in the fourth set thanks to a Rachel Ziesman (career and match-high 17 kills, six blocks, and five digs overall) kill making it 13-10 Pittsburg State, which sparked a 12-2 UCM run.
  • Central Missouri outhit the Gorillas by a margin of .258 to .027 thanks to middle blocker Elinor Engel's 14 kills on 28 swings (.357 attack percentage) adding a career-high six blocks, plus, freshman Emma Siron had nine kills on 20 swings (.300 hitting percentage) and contributed a career-high three blocks.
  • Defensively, the Jens were led by libero Grace Winkelmann's team-leading 22 digs, plus, freshman Emma Wheeler added a career-high 11 digs and redshirt senior Sydney Lierz contributed 10 digs and a career-high five assists for good measure.
  • Outside hitter Kersti Nix added nine kills, four digs and two blocks, while freshman Gillian Bachali collected eight kills in the winning effort.

Series History
  • Missouri Southern: Ahead of Tuesday's match, Central Missouri holds an 81-2-1 record against the Lions all-time dating back to the 1979 season. In Warrensburg, the Jens are 32-0 including a 3-1 (25-11, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Missouri Southern in October of last season. Outside hitter Kersti Nix led UCM with a match-high 18 kills on 33 swings (.394 attack percentage) adding five blocks respectively. Redshirt freshman Grace Winkelmann had a match-high 19 digs, while setter Chandler Vaughan (51 assists and 11 digs) recorded a double-double performance for good measure.
  • Newman: This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Jets and Central Missouri dating back to 1987 with the Jens having an 11-0 record overall. UCM is 4-0 inside the Multipurpose Building including last season's 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18) victory on October 1. Outside hitter Kersti Nix had a match-high 22 kills while redshirt junior Sydney Lierz added 15 kills on 37 swings (.378 hitting percentage). Middle blocker Grace Southern contributed six blocks and four kills, plus, redshirt freshman Grace Winkelmann collected a team-high 17 digs and libero Rylie Barnum added 14 digs respectively.  

Jens by the Numbers
  • Central Missouri is averaging 16.0 digs, 13.3 kills, 12.1 assists, 2.4 blocks (second-best in the conference) and 1.3 service aces per set through ten matches this season.
  • Setter Olivia Olson leads the Jens with 11 double-doubles on the year collecting a MIAA leading 608 assists averaging 10.31 assists per set (ranks second in the MIAA) while having the second-most digs (159) and third in blocks (47) on the team.
  • Redshirt senior Kersti Nix leads UCM with 202 kills (second in the MIAA) on the season averaging 3.42 per set (third-most in the conference) while averaging 3.76 points per set (ranks fourth in the MIAA) and has the second-most double-doubles on the team with four.
  • Middle Blocker Grace Southern's 72 blocks leads UCM averaging 1.31 per set (best in the conference) and hitting percentage at .304 (eighth in the MIAA). Southern is second on the team in kills with 137 (2.49 kills per set) and points with 184.5 (3.35 points per set).
  • Redshirt sophomore Grace Winklemann leads the Jens with 221 digs on the year averaging 3.75 digs per set and has collected double-digit digs in 13 consecutive matches including four with 20 or more.
