CALEDONIA, Mich. – Caroline Cole,
Julia Kristensen and
Lindsay Edmonds each scored goals lifting sixth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer to a 3-1 win over the Davenport Panthers Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
The Jennies (3-0-1) are scheduled to return home to the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg to host Missouri Southern in a non-conference match Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
The Panthers (1-2-1) gained a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the 34th minute, but it was short-lived, as Cole corralled a free kick from Edmonds and hammered it into the back of the net just nine minutes later, leveling the match for UCM, 1-1, in the 43rd minute. It was Cole's team-best fifth goal of the season and Edmond's first assist.
The Jennies jumped out of halftime fast, taking just nine minutes to gain a 2-1 lead. Kristensen placed a pass from
Madilyn Hamline past the Davenport keeper for the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute. It was Kristensen's first goal and Hamline's inaugural assist of 2022.
Edmonds put an exclamation mark on the match for Central Missouri, belting a free-kick into the top, left corner of the net in the 84th minute for her opening goal of the season and a 3-1 Jenny advantage.
For the match, UCM outshot Davenport, 14-10, with both teams placing five shots on goal.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Sydney Beck (3-0-1) earned the victory between the posts, going the full 90 minutes and making three saves.
Citlali Luna scored the Panthers' lone goal of the contest, pacing DU in the match.
Davenport goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke (1-2-1) suffered the loss after making two saves but allowing all three UCM goals in 90 minutes.
