WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Ja' Cor Nelson scored 22 points and tallied six steals as the Central Missouri Mules basketball team rolled to an 86-49 win against Newman Wednesday, Feb. 9, inside the Multipurpose Building.
The Mules (11-10, 8-9 MIAA) are scheduled to travel Topeka, Kan., for an MIAA contest at Washburn Saturday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m.
Nelson, a redshirt senior from Hopkins, S.C., went 10-of-12 from the floor, and 2-of-2 at the free-throw line for his game-high 22 points.
Reggie Morris scored a season-best 13 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, and
Koray Gilbert added 12 points to round out the Mules in double figures.
Central Missouri shot 51 percent from the field for the game, going 32-of-62, including a 10-of-27 performance from beyond-the arc for 37 percent, and went 12-for-13 at the free-throw line for 92 percent.
UCM shot a scorching 63 percent from the field in the second half after shooting 40 percent in the first half.
The Mules also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Jets (4-16, 1-14 MIAA), 32-26, and scored 32 points off 22 Newman Jets turnovers while only committing eight turnovers of their own in the game.
UCM limited Newman to just 44 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent shooting from three-point range for the contest.
David Javorsky, Deandre Johnson and Jorge Oliva each scored seven points, pacing the Jets.
