EDMOND, Okla. -- Cameron Hunter drilled a three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining and scored a season-best 27 points to help the Central Missouri Mules defeat the No. 15-ranked and first-place Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 70-69, Wednesday, Feb. 23, inside Hamilton Field House.
The Mules (13-12, 10-11 MIAA) are slated to finish out the regular season at Lincoln Saturday, Feb. 26, in Jefferson City, Mo., at 3 p.m.
With UCM trailing 69-67, Hunter took a pass from
Gaven Pinkley and converted a trey, giving UCM the 70-69 advantage with 11 ticks to go in the game. Central Oklahoma had one final chance to win the game, but Callen Hayden's three at the buzzer was off the mark, securing the upset victory for Central Missouri.
Hunter, a redshirt senior from Olathe, Kan., netted his season-best 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a 7-for-15 performance from three-point range, and a 4-for-5 showing at the free-throw line.
Ja'Cor Nelson added 14 points and 11 rebounds for his team-best eighth double-double of the season, while
Trey Sides also reached double figures with 11 points, rounding out the UCM leaders for the contest.
Central Missouri shot 44 percent from the field (26-of-59) and were 12-of-32 from three-point range for 38 percent.
The Bronchos (22-5, 17-4 MIAA) shot 50 percent from the floor (26-of-52), but were only 4-of-22 from beyond-the-arc for 22 percent. UCO outrebounded UCM, 34-27.
Isaiah Wade led three Bronchos in double figures with 16 points, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 at the free-throw line.
