No. 4 Jennies Soccer Captures Sixth MIAA Tournament Title with 4-3 Win Over Emporia State

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Andree Orcutt bent a free-kick on the left side of the box into the upper right corner of the net in the 87th minute to lift fourth-ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer to a 4-3 victory over Emporia State in the MIAA Women's Soccer Championship match Sunday, Nov. 6, at the South Recreation Complex.

The tournament title is the sixth in program history for the Jennies (18-1-2) and secures the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament.

Central Missouri jumped on Emporia State (11-6-4) early, taking a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the match when Madilyn Hamline sent a pass into the center of the box to Julia Kristensen, who placed her shot into the left side of the net for her team-high 15th goal of the season.

UCM upped its advantage to 2-0 just before halftime in the 43rd minute after Ashleigh Martin netted her third goal of 2022 on a shot the lower center of the goal.

The Jennies made it 3-0 two minutes out of halftime in the 47th minute when Hamline hammered a feed from Caroline Cole into the center of the net. It was her 11th goal and Cole's seventh assist of the season.

The Hornets fought back, however, and tied the match, 3-3, with goals in the 63rd, 76th and 81st minutes.

Central Missouri didn't let up, though, and netted what proved to the be game-winning goal on Orcutt's free-kick with just three minutes remaining in the second half. It was her first goal of the season.

For the match, Emporia State outshot UCM, 17-11, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.

Jennies' goalkeeper Sydney Beck (18-1-2) earned the victory between the posts after making a career-high eight saves, including a save with seven minutes remaining in regulation to keep the match tied, and giving up three goals in 90 minutes.

Makenzie Dimarco netted a goal and compiled four shots on goal, pacing the Hornets in the setback.

ESU goalkeeper Mackenzi Goen (1-3-3) suffered the loss after surrendering three goals and making one save in 78 minutes of action.

Central Missouri will find out who and where it'll play in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament Monday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. during the NCAA-II Women's Soccer Championship Selection Show on NCAA.com.
