HAYS, Kan. – The 22nd-ranked Fort Hays State Tigers outscored the Central Missouri Mules in the second half, 44-30, to rally from a nine-point first half deficit and defeat the Mules, 64-59, Thursday, Jan. 6, inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Mules (6-6, 3-5 MIAA) are slated to travel to Kearney, Neb., for a 4 p.m. MIAA contest at Nebraska Kearney Saturday, Jan. 8.
Redshirt senior guard
Cameron Hunter netted a team-high 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting and a perfect 5-of-5 performance at the free-throw line while fellow redshirt senior guard
Ja'Cor Nelson scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds, leading UCM in the game.
Central Missouri shot 44 percent from the field (21-of-48) but were just 3-for-18 from three-point range for 17 percent. The Mules made 14 of 18 free-throws for 78 percent.
Fort Hays State (11-2, 6-2 MIAA) shot 40 percent from the field (19-of-48) and were only 9-of-20 from beyond-the-arc (45 percent) but made eight of its nine three pointers in the second half, shooting a blistering 67 percent (8-of-12) from long range in the stanza.
The Tigers also outrebounded the Mules, 32-29.
Nyjee Wright netted 14 points, leading Fort Hays State in the game.
