Jennies Soccer Scores Late to Down Bulldogs, 1-0

WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer scored a goal in the final minutes of the second half to earn a 1-0 shutout win over the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs Saturday, Sept. 4, at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.

The Jennies (2-0-0) are scheduled to host the Minnesota State Mavericks for their 2021 home opener Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

With the match scoreless heading into the 87th-minute, freshman Caroline Cole placed a pass from junior Kassie Newsom into the lower center of the net, giving the Jennies a 1-0 advantage with just three minutes remaining in regulation. It was Cole's first goal of the season and Newsom's second assist.

The Jennies' defense and senior goalkeeper Lindsey Johnson came up big in the match, keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard to secure their second consecutive clean sheet of the season.

Johnson made one save in the full 90 minutes between the pipes to earn the win and move to 2-0-0 in 2021, while the UCM backline limited SWOSU (1-1-0) to just four shots and one shot on goal the entire match.

The Jennies posted a commanding 24-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 edge in shots on-target.
