DENVER – Tenth-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies volleyball split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver Friday, Sept. 10, downing Texas A&M-Commerce, 3-1, before suffering their first loss of the season in the nightcap, 3-0, to No. 20 Metro State.
The set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 25-21 in UCM's victory over the Lions and 18-25, 19-25, 17-25 in the setback to the Road Runners.
The Jennies (5-1) are scheduled to play Rockhurst (4-2) in Silver Bracket Pool Play Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. CT. The winner of that match will play in the Silver Bracket first-place match at 6 p.m. CT Saturday, with the loser playing for third place in the Silver Bracket at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Central Missouri used a .298 to .206 hitting advantage in the opener to take down Texas A&M-Commerce, 3-1.
Audrey Fisher and
Kersti Nix both had a team-best 12 kills, while
Ally Offerdahl compiled a match-high 44 assists.
Rylie Barnum added a team-best 13 digs, and Fisher had a team-high four blocks.
UCM hit at least .300 or better in three of its four sets against the Lions (0-2), and posted advantages in kills (59-49), aces (6-4) and assists (54-48).
Nicki Gonelli hit .455 with 13 kills, pacing Texas A&M-Commerce.
In the nightcap, host and 20th-ranked Metro State (3-2) limited the Jennies to a season-low .112 hitting to lead it to a 3-0, straight-set win.
Nix had 12 kills and hit .417, and Fisher added seven kills and hit .429, pacing UCM.
Rylee Hladky tallied a match-high 14 kills, pacing the Road Runners.
