Mules Take Series Opener from Missouri Western

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (May 6, 2021) - Central Missouri scored five runs in each of the first two innings on their way to a seven-inning run-rule 13-3 win over Missouri Western. The win puts the Mules at 32-6 and 28-3 in the MIAA.

How it Happened

• Central Missouri used a bullpen day getting three innings each from Derek Beauchamp and Brady Gavin and the final inning from Max Abramovich.
• Missouri Western started the game getting a pair of runs in the first. They led off the game with a home run from Ben Tsui. With runners on the corners, they then executed a double-steal as the second run of the inning crossed the plate.
• The lead didn't even last a full inning. Alex Madera tied the game with a two-out, two-RBI single. Harrison Schnurbusch then cleared the bases with a line drive home run to left scoring three more.
• UCM put up another five spot in the second. The inning started with MWSU retiring the first two batters. Dusty Stroup then launched a long home run to left. Madera came up again with two on and scored them both with a triple. Donovan Ditto drove in Madera with a single and a Griffon error allowed another run to score, putting UCM up 10-2 after two.
• Each team tossed scoreless third and fourth innings. UCM got the offense going again in the fifth. Scott Wolverton led off the inning with a home run. Missouri Western answered leading off the sixth with a long ball themselves.
• Leading 11-3, UCM made it 12-3 with Cole Moore's two-out pinch hit single. Central Missouri then ended the game in the seventh with back-to-back extra base hits, a double from Stroup and a game-ending triple from Brennen vanBreusegen.
