EDMOND, Okla. (May 14, 2021) -
Ashlyn Cook's walk-off single and three-base error cliched the Jennies 3-2 victory in the bottom of the eighth against No. 14 Central Oklahoma on the Bronchos home turf. With the win, Central Missouri advances to the MIAA Tournament Championships for the first time since 2015.
How it Happened:
• As the home team on the score board, UCM plated the first runs of the day in the bottom of the second and held onto a 2-0 lead through three innings.
• The opening inning saw three batters up and three batters down by both the Bronchos and the Jennies.
• Central Oklahoma recorded the first hits of the day in the top of the second inning with two singles through the left side.
Paige Petefish and Jennies defense held the Bronchos without a score.
• The Jennies scored two runs off four hits and left two runners on base in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back singles to the outfield by
Makenzie McAtee and
Jessica Sader gave UCM its first base runners.
• With one out and runners on,
Brenlyn McCoy doubled to left center, scoring both McAtee and Sader for the Jennies 2-0 lead.
• Central Missouri's defense held the Bronchos without a hit through the third and fourth innings.
• The Bronchos recorded their first hits in the top of the fifth with back-to-back singles. Again, Petefish and the Jennies defense held UCO without a run.
• In UCO's following at-bats the Bronchos tied the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth. With one runner on base, UCO's offensive leader Hazel Puempel homered to right field scoring herself and Jacee Minter.
Kyleigh Lay came in to relieve Petefish for the final two outs of the inning.
• Central Missouri left two runners in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning.
• Lay and the UCM defense held the Bronchos without a hit in the top of the seventh.
• Tied at 2-2,
Taylor Nickel opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field. She was then moved to second on a single up the middle by
Abbey Fischer to give UCM two base runners with just one out.

Bailey Fowler grounded into a double play to send the game into extra innings.
• For the third time in the game, the UCM defense held the Bronchos without a score with two runners on base in the top of the eighth.
• In the Jennies first at-bat in the bottom of the eighth, Bronchos right fielder misjudged
Ashlyn Cook's base-hit single, allowed the ball to travel all the way to the fence. Quick around the bases, Cook touched all four bases for the Jennies walk-off 3-2 victory.
Leading the Jennies:
• For the second-straight game, first baseman
Makenzie McAtee reached on base in all three of her appearances at the plate. She led the Jennies with two hits and a walk.
• Second baseman
Brenlyn McCoy's double in the bottom of the second awarded her the team-high two RBI.

Paige Petefish threw 5.1 innings against the Bronchos. In 22 at-bats, she allowed six hit and two runs without throwing a single walk. She also struckout a team-high three batters.
• In 11 batters faced,
Kyleigh Lay allowed two hits and one walk with one strikeout and no runs scored.
For the Bronchos:
• Right fielder Hazel Puempel finished with a game-high three hits in four at-bats. She also led UCO with two RBI.
• Corrina Rivas threw five innings against the Jennies giving up five hits and two runs while striking out three batters.
• Kylee Lynch pitched the final three innings against the Jennies. In 10 batters faced she allowed three hits, one run, one walk, and struck out one batter.
News & Notes:
• Both UCM and UCO finished with eight hits while the Bronchos left a game-high seven runners on base.
• This was the Jennies second win against a top-25 team this season and their third extra-inning game of the year.
• The loss is just UCO's second loss at home this season.
• Central Oklahoma continues to lead the all-time series against the Jennies 21-19.
• Central Missouri advances to the MIAA Tournament Championship game at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 15th. It will be the Jennies first time playing in the MIAA Championship game since the historic 2015 season.
