Jennies Split with RiverHawks in Pink Out Games

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 2, 2021) - After dropping game one against the RiverHawks 7-9, Jennies Softball battled back to claim the 3-2 victory in game two. Central Missouri out-hit Northeastern State in both games, totaling 24 hits to the RiverHawks 15. 

GAME 1 - Central Missouri 7, Northeastern State 9
How It Happened: 
• Central Missouri was the first to score with two runs in the opening inning.
• A double by center fielder Bailey Fowler scored UCM's leadoff hitter Abbey Fischer from second for the first run of the game. Fowler then found her way home on a stealing attempt from first to second by Makenzie McAtee
Sadie Parks and the UCM defense held NSU to just one hit in the first two innings. The freshman pitcher recorded four strikeouts in her first seven at-bats. 
• A solo home run to left field put the RiverHawks on the board in the top of the third. Northeastern State's defense held the Jennies in the bottom half of the inning with two hits and one runner left on base. 
• Another NSU home run would score three in the top of the fourth to give the RiverHawks a 4-2 lead. Kyleigh Lay came in to relieve Parks from the circle for the final outs of the inning. 
• Central Missouri recorded one hit and left one runner on in the bottom of the fourth. 
• The RiverHawks increased their two-run lead to a six-run lead in the top of the fifth with four runs off four hits and one UCM error. 
• Down 8-2, the Jennies snuck one run in during the bottom of the fifth as Fowler scored on a single by cather Sydney Wellshear who was then thrown out at second for the third out of the inning. 
• Senior Sarah Brown came in to pitch for UCM in the top of the sixth. Brown and the Jennies defense held the RiverHawks with one hit, no runs, and three runners left on base.
• Central Missouri doubled its runs in the bottom of the sixth with three runs off five hits. A single up the middle with bases loaded by pinch-hitter Lexi Parks scored Jessica Sader and Ashlyn Cook. Back-to-back singles by Fischer and Fowler would score Bailee Bryant for the Jennies sixth run of the game. The RiverHawks continued to lead 8-6 heading into the final inning. 
• Northeastern State recorded its third home run of the game with a solo bomb over left field in their final appearances in the box to lead UCM by three. 
• The Jennies scored one run off two hits and left two runners on in their seventh-inning rally attempt. A ground out by Bryant scored Wellshear from third for the final run of the game. 
• The two hour and 20 minute game saw a total of 26 hits, 16 which belonged to the Jennies for a season-best total. 
• Northeastern State's nine runs is the most allowed by the Jennies defense so far this season. 

Leading the Jennies:
Bailey Fowler finished a perfect 4-4 in the box with two doubles and two singles. She also led the Jennies with two runs scored and tied Lexi Parks for the team-high two RBI.
Sydney Wellshear was 3-4 with an RBI and one run scored. 
Abbey Fischer, Ashlyn Cook, and Jessica Sader each finished with two hits. 
Sadie Parks led the UCM pitching staff with three innings pitched. In 15 at-bats she allowed four runs off four hits and no walks while striking out four. 
Sarah Brown threw two innings for the Jennies allowing two hits, one run, three walks, and also stuck out four batters. 

Leading the RiverHawks:
• Alyssia Crick was 3-4 with two home runs and a double. She led NSU with three hits, six RBI, and two runs scored. 
• Gail Young faced a game-high 34 batters. She allowed 14 hits, seven runs and two walks while striking out three Jennies. 

GAME 2 - Central Missouri 3, Northeastern State 2
How It Happened: 
• The RiverHawks were the first to score in game two with another solo home run. 
• Central Missouri answered NSU's run with one of their own in the bottom of the first as Abbey Fischer scored on a ground out by Makenzie McAtee
• Northeastern State recorded the only hit of the second inning as the score remained 1-1 moving into the top of the third. 
• Another solo NSU dinger regained the RiverHawks lead at 2-1 in the top of the third. 
• Jenna Chassie and the RiverHawks defense held the Jennies with just three hits in 11 at-bats through the third, fourth and fifth innings. 
• Central Missouri tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as McAtee was hit home on a single to right field by Ashlyn Cook
Paige Petefish and the Jennies defense continued to hold the RiverHawks without a run through the final four innings. 
• With one out and two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, a fielding error by NSU's shortstop on Bailey Fowler's infield hit would score Brenlyn McCoy for the Jennies game-winning run. 
• The Jennies out-hit the RiverHawks 8-5 in game two.
• Both teams left a total of five runners on base. 

Leading the Jennies:
Makenzie McAtee and Sydney Wellshear led UCM with two hits each. 
Bailey Fowler, McAtee, and Cook each accounted for the Jennies three total RBI.
Paige Petefish threw the complete game for the Jennies. In 26 at-bats she allowed five hits, two runs, no walks and struck out eight NSU batters.

Leading the RiverHawks:
• Kelley Carly led NSU with two hits. 
• Rhomie Bradshaw and Cameron Conrad shared the team-high one RBI and one run scored. 
• Jenna Chassie also threw the complete game. In 27 at-bats she allowed eight hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out three Jennies. 

News & Notes:
• Jennies catcher Sydney Wellshear led the UCM offense on the day. She went 5-7 hitting .714 and led the Jennies with a .857 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage. 
• Central Missouri's 16 hits in game one against the RiverHawks is a season-high.
• Ten different Jennies were responsible for their 24 total on the day.
• With two hits in game one, the Jennies junior third baseman Jessica Sader is just one hit away from her career 100th.
• Central Missouri continues to lead the all-time series against NSU 17-13.

Up Next:
Jennies Softball returns to Jennies Field Saturday, April 3rd for another MIAA doubleheader against No. 21 Rogers State. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1: 00 p.m. at the South Recreational Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
