WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 17, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball honored its class of 2020 and 2021 seniors with its fourth straight MIAA sweep Saturday afternoon. The Jennies defeated the Gorillas 3-2 in game one and 6-3 in game two for their 23rd and 24th wins of the season.
GAME 1 - Central Missouri 3, Pittsburg State 2
How it Happened:
• Central Missouri plated all three of its run in the bottom of the first inning off four hits and one PSU error.
• In the Jennies opening at-bat, shortstop
Abbey Fischer singled to right field for the first hit of the day.
• With one out and runners on second and third, the designed played
Sydney Wellshear singled to center field, scoring Fischer for UCM's first score.
• Center Fielder
Bailey Fowler scored the Jennies second run off a ground out to the right side of the field by
Ashlyn Cook.
• Third baseman
Jessica Sader drove home the Jennies third run with an infield single, scoring Wellshear for the 3-0 lead.
•
Kyleigh Lay and the UCM defense followed up the three-run inning with three consecutive Gorilla outs.
• After the bottom of the first, Kaylee Burns and the PSU defense held the Jennies to just two hits the rest of the game.
• A solo home run in the top of the fourth scored the Gorillas first run of the game. Pittsburg State added its second run in the following inning off two singles.

Paige Petefish came in to relieve Lay for the final out of the fifth inning. In the final two innings, Petefish and the UCM defense held the Gorillas with two hits and three baserunners in 10 at-bats.
• Pittsburg State out hit the Jennies 8-6 and left a total of eight base runners on base, five of which were in scoring position.
• All six of UCM's came off the bats of six different Jennies.
Leading the Jennies:

Sydney Wellshear led the Jennies offense going 1-2 with one RBI and one run scored.
•
Ashlyn Cook and
Jessica Sader were responsible for driving in the two other UCM runs.
•
Kyleigh Lay threw 4.2 innings in the circle. In 21 at-bat shes allowed six hits, two runs, no walks, and struck out three batters.

Paige Petefish allowed two hits and one walk while also striking out three batters in nine at-bats.
Leading the Gorillas:
• Pittsburg State's designated player Taylor Lambert recorded a game-high two hits.
• Lauren Florez and Kori Stonestreet each led PSU with one RBI.
• Kaylee Burns pitched the complete game for the Gorillas. In 24 at-bat she allowed six hits, three runs, one walk, and struck out four Jennies.
GAME 2 - Central Missouri 6, Pittsburg State 3
How it Happened:
• The Gorillas were the first to score in game two with two runs off four hits in the top of the first.
• Central Missouri quickly reacted to the deficit, hitting three home runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead over PSU.
• First baseman
Makenzie McAtee was the first to hit one out with a two-run shot over right center, scoring
Bailey Fowler and herself. With two outs and no runner on base,
Ashlyn Cook and Jessica Sadar hit back-to-back dingers for the Jennies third and fourth runs of the game.
• Through the second and third innings, both UCM and PSU totaled three hits and left three runners on base.
• Pittsburg State plated its third and final run of the game in the top of the fourth with a double and a single.

Paige Petefish made her second appearance of the day, coming in to relieve
Sadie Parks for the final out of the inning.
• While Petefish and the Jennies defense held the Gorillas at the plate, the UCM offense added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
• Central Missouri's catcher
Carson Staponski opened the inning with a double to left field. Pinch hitter
Aubrey Brown scored Staponski's pinch runner
Peyton Corrigan with another the first run of the inning. A single up the middle by
Abbey Fischer would score the Jennies second run of the inning and sixth of the game.
• In the top of the seventh, senior pitcher
Sarah Brown would come in to relieve
Paige Petefish to record the final out of the game.
• The Jennies out hit the Gorillas 12-11 in game two.
• Pittsburg State continued to leave multiple runners in scoring position as the UCM defense held the Gorillas with a total of nine runners left on base.
Leading the Jennies:
• Four different Jennies finished with two hits and six individual Jennies totaled UCM's six runs.

Makenzie McAtee and
Aubrey Brown tied for a game-high two RBI.
• Right fielder
Ashlyn Cook was a perfect 2-2 with a walk.

Sadie Parks threw the first 3.2 innings against the Gorillas. In 20 at-bat she allowed a season-high nine hits and three runs while striking out a game-high three batters.
• In 10 at bats,
Paige Petefish allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out one batter.
Leading the Gorillas:
• Second baseman Kaity Kukowski finished with a game-high three hits in four at-bats.
• Three different Gorillas totaled PSU's three RBI and three runs scored.
• Taylor Compton threw the first five innings against the Jennies. In 23 at-bat she allowed 10 hits, five runs, two walks, and struck out two batters.
News & Notes:
• With two wins today, UCM recorded its fourth consecutive MIAA sweep and is on a nine-game winning streak, the program's longest winning streak since the 2015 season.
• On the day, the Jennies out scored PSU 9-5 while the Gorillas out hit UCM 19-18.
• Three baseman
Jessica Sader led UCM's offense going 3-6 on the day with a home run and two singles.
• Central Missouri has now recorded double-figure hits in 16 games this season.
• The Jennies three home runs in game two ties their season-high. They've now hit three home runs in seven games this season.

Central Missouri returns to Jennies Field tomorrow, April 18th, to host Missouri Southern in another MIAA doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the South Recreational Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
