Mules Rout Hornets to Open Series

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 19, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball had their way with Emporia State in game one of their three-game set. The Mules scored in five different innings, taking down ESU in seven innings 15-1. UCM is now 9-1 in the MIAA and 13-4 overall. 

How it Happened
• The Mules collected 17 hits while the Hornets only picked up three.
• Each team had a difficult time in the field with the Mules committing three errors and the Hornets two. The lone run the Hornets scored was unearned.
• UCM had their extra-base hit bats out as seven of the Mules 17 hits went for extra bases with two home runs.
• After a scoreless first, the Mules picked up the offense in the second. UCM batted around in the inning. They got three straight RBI hits from Scott Wolverton, Josh Schumacher and Erik Webb and after two innings led 6-0.
Mason Green shut down the Hornets in the home-half of the second and the bats quickly went back to work scoring four more in the third. Cole Taylor singled in Garrett Pennington for the first run. Alex Madera laced a triple to the opposite field to bring home Taylor and Micah Evans cleared the bases with his first home run of the season for a 10-0 lead.
• UCM continued to pour it on getting runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Dusty Stroup's long ball put the Mules ahead 13-1 and an error on the infield allowed the final two runs to score. 
Max Abramovich came on to throw the final inning and got a double-play to end the ball game.

Mules Stat Leaders
• Starting on the hill, Mason Green threw six innings allowing just an unearned run on three hits. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter. 
Garrett Pennington picked up four of the Mules 17 hits with a double and scored three times.
Alex Madera drove in three runs on two hits.
Josh Schumacher and Cole Taylor each had two hits and an RBI.
Micah Evans and Scott Wolverton each drove in two runs.

For the Hornets
• Quinn Cherry scored the lone run for ESU.
• Javier Pena had an RBI double.
• Austin Neal threw a scoreless inning in relief.

News and Notes
Erik Webb moved into fourth place all-time at UCM in career hits and is one behind third place. He's now gotten a hit in 13 straight games. 
• Harrison Schunurbusch scored his 150th career run.
Josh Schumacher picked up career hit number 100. 
• Central Missouri has won their winning streak to a season-high eight games. 
• All nine Mules starters picked up a hit. 
Mason Green is now 5-0 on the season and 16-0 for his career at UCM. His five wins are the most in NCAA Division I or II.
