Mules Drop Rubber-Game to No. 23 Panthers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 23, 2021) - No. 3 Central Missouri Mules Baseball dropped the rubber game to No. 23 Davenport Tuesday afternoon 6-3. The Panthers used a five-run fourth to take the lead and never looked back. The Panthers come away with a 2-1 series win as the Mules fall to 4-3 on the season.

How It Happened
• The Mules were out-hit 9-6, with all of the Panthers runs and hits coming in the first four innings.
• Central Missouri's defense let them down with three errors in the game leading to an unearned run. 
• Both team's had opportunities to score. The Mules left eight runners on base and the Panthers nine. 
Erik Webb got the scoring started for the Mules in the bottom of the first with a triple bringing in Josh Schumacher who kept the inning alive with a two-out walk. 
• Davenport tied the game in the third with a two-out RBI single to center.
• The big inning for the Panthers came in the fourth. They plated five to open up a 6-1 lead. Aaron Cardoza doubled and a pair of RBI singles padded the Panther lead. 
• Central Missouri went hitless until the seventh. Harrison Schnurbusch and John Prudhom each doubled bringing the score to 6-2.
• UCM had their best chance to get back into the game in the eighth. Erik Webb singled to make it a 6-3 game. The Mules got the tying run on base with one out, but a pop up and a fly out ended the threat. 
• Brennan vanBreusegen knocked a pinch hit double in the ninth, but was stranded on second. 

Mules Stat Leaders
Erik Webb picked up two hits including a triple with two RBI. 
John Prudhom doubled and drove home a run.
Josh Schumacher had a hit and run scored. 
Conor Dryer got the start and looked good through two. His day ended in the fourth though after three and a third allowing five runs, four earned on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Max Abramovich, Brady Gavin, Harrison Babbitt and Evan Rathburn combined for 5.2 hitless innings in relief. 

For the Panthers
• Ricky Clark threw 7.1 innings allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
• Cal Djuraskovic got the save pitching the final 1.2 innings. 
• Nolan Anspaugh finished 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
• Aaron Cardoza drove in a pair with a double.

News and Notes
• The Mules three errors are a season-high and their three runs and six hits both season lows.
• The last time UCM lost a three-game series was March 8-10, 2019 against UCO. It's also the last time they lost back-to-back games. 
• The Mules bullpen this series threw 14.2 innings allowing just one run. 
• This was the first career start at third base for John Prudhom.

• The Mules will start MIAA play this weekend with a three-game set against Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. Game one is a part of a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 27 starting at 1 p.m.
