Jennies Host SWOSU in NCAA-II Tournament First Round Friday

No. 1 Central Missouri (17-3-1) vs. No. 8 SWOSU (13-6-1)

SCENE SETTER
• Jennies soccer (17-3-1) is the top seed in the NCAA-II Central Region and will host the quarterfinals and semifinals of the regional tournament Friday, Nov. 19, and Sunday, Nov. 21, at the South Recreation Complex. UCM will face No. 8 seed SWOSU (13-6-1) Friday at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The other quarterfinal contest being played in Warrensburg will feature No. 4 seed Minnesota State (17-2-2) vs. No. 5 seed Oklahoma Baptist (13-5-1) at 10 a.m.
• The Jennies are marking their 11th straight appearance in the NCAA tournament and their 14th appearance in program history.
• Central Missouri is coming off a 1-0 setback to Emporia State in the MIAA tournament championship match Nov. 14.
• The Jennies are ranked 11th in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25-Poll.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SWOSU
UCM leads, 9-0-0
Last meeting: The Jennies and the Bulldogs met once earlier this season with UCM winning the match 1-0 in Weatherford, Okla.
Postseason series history: Central Missouri and SWOSU have met only three times in postseason competition, with UCM tallying a 3-0-0 record vs. the Bulldogs. The Jennies defeated SWOSU in the NCAA-II Central Region in Warrensburg in 2019, 4-1.

SCOUTING SWOSU
• SWOSU has an overall record of 13-6-1 and is the No. 8 seed going into the NCAA-II Central Region Tournament.
• The Bulldogs dropped a 1-0 decision over No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist on Nov. 13 in the GAC tournament semifinals.
• Brianna Benitez has contributed 12 goals, five assist, 29 points, and 47 shots, leading SWOSU after 20 matches, while Brenna McGuirk  has five goals, four assists, 14 points, and 33 shots.
• Ashley Hughers has played in 15 matches, tallying 64 saves, 14 goals allowed, and a .95 goals-against average.
• Mark Persson is in his 13th season as SWOSU' s head coach.

POSTSEASON ACCOLADES
• Central Missouri had nine student-athletes named to the 2021 All-MIAA Women's Soccer Teams.
Kassie Newsom was awarded the 2021 MIAA Offensive Player of the Year.
Lindsey Johnson was named the 2021 All-MIAA Co-Goalkeeper of the Year.
Caroline Cole was voted the 2021 MIAA Freshman of the Year.
Lindsay Edmonds (D), Cole, Newsom and Sydney Leslie were all First Team All-MIAA selections.
• Johnson was voted to the All-MIAA Second Team, along with Isa Yanes (MF).
Lexi Ruf was selected to the All-MIAA Third Team (MF).
Molly Ricker (D) and Ashleigh Martin (F) were named All-MIAA Honorable Mention.

NEWSOM NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Kassie Newsom was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second straight season in 2021.
• Newsom carries a perfect 4.0 GPA as a criminal justice major.

JENNIES IN THE MIAA STATISTICS
• Through 21 matches, Kassie Newsom leads the MIAA in points (49), assists (15) and is  second in goals (17) while Sydney Leslie is 9th in the conference in shots (64), third in points (28) and third in goals (14).
• In the latest MIAA goalkeeping statistics, Lindsey Johnson is fifth in GAA (1.30) and saves (74), and sixth in shutouts per match (.250)

JENNIES IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICS
Kassie Newsom is second in all of NCAA Division II women's soccer with 49 points and ranks third in both total assists (15) and fourth in assists per game (0.72). She is second in points per game at 2.61.
• Newsom has already set a new UCM single-season assists record with 15 and has tied the program's single-season points mark at 49 going into NCAA-II regional action. Her 17 goals in three shy of tying Jada Scott's single-season mark of 20 set in 2018.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
• Dating back to the 2016 season, the Jennies are 37-1-1 at Jennies Field and have allowed just 19 goals in that span.
• The Jennies have outscored opponents 141-2 in goals at home since 2016.
• All-time at Jennies Field, UCM is 199-34-9. Under head coach Lewis Theobald, the Jennies are 136-13-8 at home and have posted undefeated home records five times.

ROAD WARRIORS
• In 2021, the Jennies are 7-1-1 on the road.
• The Jennies have outscored their opponents away from the South Recreation Complex this
season, 7-2.
• Under Theobald, UCM is 143-14-9 in road games in his 15th seasons of play.

CAREER MILESTONE WATCH
Lindsey Johnson enters the week ranked seventh in career saves with 231. She is also in the top-10 in saves per game (4.63), goals-against average (1.30), and save percentage (.779).
