WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Sydney Leslie scored two goals and
Kassie Newsom posted a goal and two assists to help No. 17 University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer to a 5-0 shutout win over Missouri Southern Friday, Oct. 29, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (14-2-1, 8-1-1 MIAA) are scheduled to host Missouri Western on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. for Senior Day and their 2021 regular season finale.
Leslie netted her match-high two goals in the 25th and 47th minutes, while Newsom scored for UCM in the 44th minute.
Nayeli Gallo (54th minute) and Lindsey Edmonds (66th minute) also found the back of the net for the Jennies.
In her first start of 2021, UCM goalkeeper
Sydney Daris kept the Lions (3-12-2, 2-8-0 MIAA) off the scoreboard the full 90 minutes to secure the Jennies fifth clean sheet of the season.
Leslie got the scoring going for the Jennies 25 minutes into the match, controlling a Newsom pass and slotting it home to the left corner of the net, putting UCM on top, 1-0.
Newsom doubled UCM's advantage to 2-0 19 minutes later when she controlled a feed from
Peyton Wagoner and slotted it home. It was Newsom's team-best 15th goal of the season.

Leslie upped the Central Missouri lead to 3-0 just over two minutes into the second-half after she converted a penalty-kick. It was her 11th goal of the season.
UCM built its lead to 4-0 when Gallo scored her first goal of 2021 on a shot from close range on the right side of the box off Newsom's second assist of the match and team and MIAA-best 12th of the season in the 54th minute.
Edmonds put an exclamation point on the match for UCM in the 66th minute, netting her second goal of 2021 off a corner kick for the 5-0 advantage.
For the match, the Jennies outshot the Lions, 25-8, including a 13-0 advantage in shots on goal. UCM also had the edge in corner kicks, 6-1.
