WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Eighteenth-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer scored two goals in the first half and added two more goals in the second half to earn a 4-0 shutout victory over Northeastern State on Friday, Oct. 1, at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jennies (7-1-1, 1-0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to host Rogers State on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m.
Central Missouri netted goals in the 24th, 34
th, 57th, and 71 minutes on its way to its seventh victory of the season.
Kassie Newsom netted two of UCM's four goals and dished out an assist, while
Isa Yanes and
Sydney Leslie each scored a goal, and
Jordan Austin and
Caroline Cole posted assists, leading Central Missouri in the contest.
UCM goalkeepers
Lindsey Johnson,
Sydney Daris and
Sydney Beck kept the RiverHawks (3-4-2, 0-2-0 MIAA) off the scoreboard to secure the Jennies fourth clean sheet of the season, with Johnson making five saves and Beck tallying a save.
Yanes gave the Jennies a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season when Newsom deflected a corner kick right to Yanes, who hammered her shot into the back of the net.
Newsom doubled UCM's advantage to 2-0 less than 10 minutes later after she corralled a feed from Cole and slotted it home.
Central Missouri built its lead to 3-0 12 minutes into the second half when Leslie scored her team-high-tying sixth goal of 2021 on a shot from close range on the right side of the box.
Newsom put an exclamation point on the match for UCM in the 71st minute, netting her team-high-tying sixth goal of the season on a corner kick from Austin for the 4-0
advantage.
For the match, Northeastern State outshot the Jennies, 16-14, but UCM had the edge in shots on goal, 7-6.
