LEBANON, IL (January 20, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Wrestling got their season underway Wednesday afternoon taking on a formidable opponent in No. 5 ranked McKendree. The Mules were in a hole early having to forfeit four weight classes and fell to the Bearcats 48-3.
The first match on the mat was at 157 pounds.
John Ridle got the Mules off to a good start picking up an 7-2 decision over Josh Ramos. Ridle scored early getting on top in the first period. Ramos tried to make a comeback late, but Ridle held on for a win.
That was the only win for the Mules on the evening.
Austin Morgan put up a strong fight at 165 against Zeke Waltz going all three rounds in a 5-2 decision loss.
Zion Vasquez also took a loss by decision, 7-1, at 174.
Moving on to 184 pounds,
Jack Goin had a tall task taking on No. ranked Dan Filipek. Goin held his own, but in the closing seconds of round two took a loss by pin at 4:47. The Mules lost their final two matches by fall as well. At 197,
Joe Brady was pinned in 1:08 and after an open decision at heavyweight,
Trevor Wishne, competing in his first match for UCM, took a loss by pin as well at the end of period one in 2:57.
After all the open bout match points were added up, the Mules ended on the short end of the dual, 48-3.
The Mules will be in action once again this weekend in Kearney, Neb. at the UNK Midwest Duals Saturday, Jan. 23.
