PITTSBURG, Kan. (May 10, 2019) - Mules Baseball (36-13) used another late-inning run to continue on in the winner's bracket of the MIAA Tournament. Central Missouri broke a four-all tie in the eighth inning of their 5-4 win over Pittsburg State.
Play-by-Play
• For the second straight day, the Mules got in an early hole as Pittsburg State scored a first inning run. A two-out single put PSU on top 1-0 before the Mules came to bat.
• The Mules answered right away in the home half of the first. With two outs,
Erik Webb was hit by a pitch, then scored from first on
Harrison Schnurbusch's double to left. Webb used a few evasive maneuvers to avoid a tag at the plate and tie the game.
• In the third, PSU took a two-run lead, 3-1 getting back-to-back RBI singles.
• A big fourth inning gave UCM their first lead.
Cole Taylor doubled to make it a 3-2 game. A pair of unearned runs scored to give the Mules a 4-3 lead.
• The lead didn't last long as the Gorillas tied things back up with a run-scoring ground ball in the fifth.
• The score stayed tied at four until the eighth.
Josh Schumacher drew a one-out walk before
Donovan Ditto moved him to third with a double.
Zak Whalin made enough contact to score Schumacher from third with the game-winning run.

Coby Seiz worked a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
Mules Stat Leaders

Luke Lucas stared and lasted 4.1 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Luke Mercer threw 2.2 hitless innings striking out four.

Evan Rathburn and
Coby Seiz eached worked perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Harrison Schnurbusch had two hits in four at bats with a run and an RBI.

Josh Schumacher drew two walks and scored twice.

• Kinsey threw the first 7.1 innings giving up five runs (two earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
• John Oliver had three hits in five at bats with two RBI.
• Alex Achtermann scored three of the Gorillas four runs with one hit.
